For more than three decades, Jan Gehl has studied the way people use cities, publishing books such as Life Between Buildings and Public Spaces, Public Life.
Jan Gehl, was in town for a two-part lecture in August 2009. He walked, biked and boated with city employees and others through Saskatoon to offer advice and inspiration to an evolving city trying to balance development with pedestrian-friendly policies.
"What I've seen so far, this city has the potential to be one of the greatest cities of Canada," said Gehl during Monday's walking tour. "Except for Vancouver, no Canadian city has addressed the humanization of urban space."

The SALA Executive is pleased to announce the award of two Student Academic awards for the 2009/2010 academic year. As there were no applicants last year we provided the SALA Awards Committee the option recommending two full awards if the candidates warranted it.
The two recipients are Vanessa Jukes who is in the Masters of Landscape Architecture program at the University of Manitoba, and William Hrycan who is in MLA program at the School of Landscape Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art.
